Congress created the Coast Guard on August 4, 1790 at the request of Alexander Hamilton as a department known as the Revenue Marine. Based upon its official founding and that of the US Navy, the Coast Guard is actually the oldest continuously operating, seagoing service in the United States today.
The Coast Guard is one of the five branches of the United States Armed Forces, one of the countrys seven uniformed services, and is unique among its peers in the Armed Forces as a multi-role agency. The Coast Guard is currently housed under the US Department of Homeland Security during peacetime, but can be transferred to the US Department of the Navy by the President or Congress during wartime. This has occurred only twice: 1917 during WWI and 1941 during WWII.
Your 1 oz Coast Guard Button Domed Silver Round is available to you inside of a protective capsule, and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity for each individual product. The rounds have a convex surface which brings 3D appeal to the overall production. Each design in this series is released to you exclusively through JM Bullion!
On the obverse of the 1 oz Coast Guard Button Domed Silver Round youll find a design inspired by the Coast Guard uniform button. A large upright anchor centers the design with an open-winged eagle perched on top. Rope winds its way around the anchor, with leaved branches curving around from the bottom upward and an outer circle design of roping as well.
The reverse of the Coast Guard Buttom Domed Silver Round includes imagery from the Great Seal of the United States, namely the national shield and the bald eagle holding the olive branch of peace and arrows of war. The Coast Guards mission includes not only maritime homeland security, but also maritime law enforcement, giving it both combat and law enforcement roles its relative branches do not fill.
