Bitcoin was created as a type of currency for use only in the digital, or virtual world in 2009. The exact identity of the individual responsible isn’t even known today, with only the alias Satoshi Nakamoto listed for credit.

The first Copper Bitcoin Commemorative Rounds were issued in 2010, just after the virtual introduction of the digital currency. These rounds were often the basis of media representations of Bitcoins when discussed in news reports.
