The Discovery Channel’s hit series, “Bering Sea Gold,” has made household names out of the individuals who risk life and limb to recover placer gold from the seafloor in the Bering Sea. Each 1 oz Bering Sea Paydirt Gilded Silver Round available here comes with an individual protective capsule. These silver rounds have a selective application of 24-karat gold on the obverse. As you view the obverse designs, you’ll note the gold layering on the engraved name BERING SEA PAYDIRT, along the rim, and the gold placer flakes being recovered in the design.
The Discovery Channel series follows several gold mining and dredging crews in Nome, Alaska. Riedel and her crew on the M/V Eroica have stood out to many viewers, partially due to Riedel’s unique background. An Alaskan native, she had previous pursued a career as an opera singer before a summer internship back home in Alaska changed her life trajectory. Today, she and her crew work hard and battle the harsh conditions of the Bering Sea to recover placer gold from the seafloor.
Obverse design elements on the Bering Sea Paydirt Gilded Silver Round include the logo of Bering Sea Paydirt. Here, you’ll notice a diver ion full gear working to suction gold placer dirt from the seafloor. Gold placer flakes are later separated from the dirt in a sluice box to sift out the precious metal.
Reverse visuals on 1 oz Bering Sea Paydirt Silver Rounds include a view of the M/V Eroica. The Eroica is Riedel’s ship, with the M/V in the title indicating “mining vessel.” Riedel and her crew face danger at every turn working in the Bering Sea. Regular on-the-job dangers include accidents or mechanical failures with the heavy machinery used in the dredging process, as well as dangerous sea conditions and the area’s remoteness from emergency services.
