The new United States Armed Forces series features unique designs on each of the five rounds honoring the nations various branches in military service. Among these branches, the Army is the oldest, having formed in 1775 at the outset of the American Revolution as a ragtag band of farmers, merchants, sailors, and other patriots who stood behind the cause of freedom.
For the symbolism in the Army Button Round Release, Anonymous Mint chose the emblem of the Department of the Army for its design inspiration. It is one of the three military departments within the Department of Defense, but is much younger than the Army itself, having formed in 1947.
On the obverse of the 1 oz Army Button Domed Silver Round youll find a piece of armor in the center of the design, with an upright sword coming out of it that features a liberty cap perched at the top. There are a half-pike and a fixed-bayonet musket on either side of the sword, with a scroll above inscribed with the phrase This Well Defend, as well as images of an early American flag, drum, cannon barrel, cannon balls, and the Department of the Army flag.
The reverse side of all rounds in this series features the title United States Armed Forces. Included as the design inspiration is the Great Seal, which features a shield bearing the bald eagle with outstretched wings. The eagle holds its traditional olive branch and arrows, with a ring of 13 stars above its head.
Osborne Mint is Americas oldest private minting location, tracing its roots back to the 1830s and a time in American history where there was no singular currency accepted for commerce in the United States.
