The Armenian Silver Noah’s Ark coin is one of Europe’s youngest silver bullion coin programs, but also one of its most popular. Armenian Noah’s Ark Coins debuted in 2011 with these 1 oz silver coins available for purchase alongside a ½ oz and ¼ oz option. The program expanded drastically in 2012, after just one year of availability, to include a 5 oz, 10 oz, 1 kilo and 5 kilo coin as well. It is the 1 oz Armenian Silver Noah’s Ark Coin, however, that remains the most popular. The introductory year saw sales of 268,325 in this 1 oz weight, with a nearly 5-fold increase through 2015 to 960,182 coins sold.
On the reverse of the Armenian Silver Noah’s Ark coin you’ll find the imagery commonly described in the Genesis flood narrative from the Christian bible. Noah’s Ark is said to have floated on the flood waters for 40 days, eventually coming to rest on Mount Ararat after a dove returned to the ship with an olive branch in its beak.
The obverse of all 1 oz Armenian Silver Noah’s Ark Coins includes the coat of arms for Armenia. In the center of the shield is a depiction of the biblical tale, with a small ark clearly visible atop Ararat and flood waters below. To the left of the shield is an eagle, while the right boasts a lion.
