The 2016 issue of the Hobo Nickel series captured the attention of collectors with its unique designs and bold interpretations of the classic Buffalo Nickel. After a successful run in 2016, there are five new designs for the Hobo Nickels in 2017 that further depart from the Buffalo Nickel as a basis of reference while still retaining some of its elements. Heads or Tales Coin Company and Osborne Mint have combined on the production of the popular Hobo Nickel Series of silver rounds. The collection of silver rounds launched in 2016 with all designs from Paulo Curcio, also known as Mr. The. For the 2017 issue of Hobo Nickel Silver Rounds, HotCo has teamed up with five new artists.
Each of the new rounds in the 2017 Hobo Nickel Series come from a different artist. Already available in the collection you’ll find a depiction of Durer’s Knight from Roman Boteen and the Fisherman & Graveyard Shift design created by Chris DeFlorentis.
In the 1 oz Antique The Trains Silver Round, designed by Steve Adams, you get multiple looks at a futuristic locomotive. On the obverse side of the round there is a steam locomotive barreling down the tracks at a man as he runs looking back at it, the rays of light from its headlamp streaming overhead. There is a year of issue marked “1900” on this face of the round.
The reverse of The Trains Silver Round has two of the same steam locomotives coming together with their headlamps meeting in the center of the design field. A human figure is depicted between them on bended knee with no head. Instead, the space is occupied by the figure’s hands holding up the obverse of a Buffalo Nickel. Rather than the traditional Native American, it depicts a humble bearded man in right-profile portrait.
Each of these 1 oz The Trains Silver Rounds features an antique finish from Osborne Mint. Antique polishes apply a unique patina to the visual field of silver round and add collectible value to any product.
