George T. Morgan, the future 7th Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint, drew inspiration for the iconic Liberty head on the Morgan Silver Dollar from Anna Willess Williams, a Philadelphia school teacher who served as his model in 1876. Williams posed for Morgan after he sought a distinctly American representation of Liberty, moving away from previous classical interpretations.
The obverse of the Sunshine Morgan Silver Bar captures the appearance of Morgan’s central design elements from the Morgan Silver Dollar. At the top of the field is a round visual element with the left-profile bust of Liberty. Her strong, determined features embodied the spirit of American womanhood and democratic ideals, creating one of the most recognizable and beloved coin designs in U.S. history that was minted from 1878 to 1921. Also included on this side are the identifying hallmarks of the bar. On the reverse, 1 Kilo Sunshine Morgan Silver Bars have a repeating field of stars.
