Asahi Refining is the newest brand in the global precious metals industry. The company has a long history in Japan, where it was founded in the 1950s in Tokyo, but recently expanded its brand with the purchase of Johnson Matthey in late 2014. Asahi Refining products are finally arriving on the market, and the 1 Kilo Asahi Silver Bar is now available from the Canadian facility, courtesy of JM Bullion.

Silver bars are available from countless mints around the globe, both sovereign and private. Asahi’s ramping up production of its own products following the purchase of Johnson Matthey’s precious metal refining operations.
Asahi was able to quickly produce gold and silver bars because it didn’t start from scratch. The company moved into Johnson Matthey production facilities in Salt Lake City, Utah in the United States and Brampton, Ontario, Canada.
On the obverse face of the bar you’ll find the minimum engravings required for silver bars that meet Good Delivery standards. The bars have the Asahi Refining brand logo at the top, and include simple markings of the bar’s weight, metal content, and purity.
These bars do not have reverse engravings, and feature simple design sets and finishes. The bar’s feature a rustic appearance and matte finishes. Original Asahi Silver Bars featured identical design elements to Johnson Matthey formatting.
Each of the 1 Kilo Silver Bars available to you in this JM Bullion product listing were struck by Asahi Refining at the Brampton, Ontario facility in Canada. Asahi planned to have new products out sooner, but intense silver demand in 2015 prevented the mint from obtaining enough silver to produce as many bars as it had hoped.
Asahi Refining completed its purchase of Johnson Matthey production facilities, and an additional Canadian operational center, in early 2015. The deal, agreed to in December 2014, was for $186 million.
