The Chinese Gold Panda coins have a complex history. First available from 1982 in four weights measured in Troy ounces, the Gold Panda coins have been issued since 2016 with weights in Grams instead. This did little to change the offering and face value of the coins, but did bring with it other changes.
1 Gram Chinese Gold Panda coins replace the former 1/20 oz Gold Panda coin first issued in 1983. The 1 Gram Gold Panda maintains the 20 Yuan face value issued for this option since 2001, with the 1/20 oz coin debuting in 1983 with a 5 Yuan face value. The change from Troy ounces to Grams did bring alterations in the total weight and diameter of the coin. These 1 Gram Chinese Gold Panda coins have exactly 1 Gram of total weight compared to 1.5552 Grams in the 1/20 oz. The diameter of the 1 Gram coin is an even 10mm compared to 13.92 for the 1/20 oz coin.
All 1 Gram Chinese Gold Panda Coins available to you here today are shipped in protective packages. However, the coins have been unsealed from their original Chinese Mint packages and as such are not available inside of those protective units.
On the obverse of the 1 Gram Chinese Gold Panda coin is the image of the Hall of Prayer for Abundant Harvests. The building is the largest within the Temple of Heaven complex and was built between 1406 and 1420.
The reverse of all 1 Gram Gold Panda coins features the image of a Giant Panda species. The Chinese Mint is famous for using different designs with each release year, alternating between images of one adult panda, a young panda, a mother and cub, and other design options. The 1 Gram Gold Panda you receive in this listing will be determined by available stock when your order is processed for shipping.
