Introduced in 1913, the Buffalo Nickel design from James Earle Fraser would go on to become one of the most beloved American coin designs in history. Interestingly, it is one of the few 20th-century designs that has staying power today, even though it originally featured on a small-denomination coin with no precious metal content. Right now, 1/4 oz SilverTowne Buffalo Silver Rounds are available to purchase online at JM Bullion.

James Earle Fraser’s redesign of the US nickel in 1913 came after the US penny was redesigned in 1909 and all four denominations of the US Eagle Gold Series were redesigned in 1907 and 1908. A few years later in 1916, the dime, quarter, and half dollar were redesigned, followed by the US silver dollar in 1921.
In the obverse design of the SilverTowne Buffalo Silver Round, a stoic indigenous figure is depicted in right-profile relief. This design was created by Fraser through the combination of facial features from three tribal elders of the early 20th century.
For the reverse face of 1/4 oz Buffalo Silver Rounds, SilverTowne offers Fraser’s striking image of a buffalo, with its body facing towards the left side of the round. The buffalo’s features are expertly crafted, with each detail of its fur and horns carefully depicted.
