The 1/2 oz Proof Gold Eagle was the first coin to debut in the fractional range, arriving in 1987. The 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagle coins feature either a “P” mint mark from the Philadelphia Mint or a “W” mint mark from the West Point Mint.

All of the 1/2 oz Proof American Gold Eagle Coins available here are PF/PR69 coins from the NGC or the PCGS. Considered near-perfect coins, these products have their full, original mint luster with a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. Limited in nature to minuscule contact marks or hairlines, these flaws are found only outside the primary focal points.

The reverse side of 1/2 oz Proof Gold Eagles features a design from Miley Busiek. Used exclusively on the Gold Eagle, it depicts a female eagle guarding a nest of hatchlings as a male eagle flies overhead.
