Introduced in 2007, the Australian Silver Koala was, at the time, one of just two major silver bullion coins available from Perth Mint on an annual basis. That first release of the coins in 2007 included only a 1 oz silver coin. In 2008, the series immediately expanded to offer three additional weights. Among these was the 1/2 oz silver coin. Right now, 1/2 oz Australian Silver Koala Coins from random years are available to purchase online from JM Bullion.

The 1/2 oz Australian Silver Koala Coin was introduced into the series in its second year, 2008. 1/2 oz silver coins in this series were struck to order each year, with Perth Mint never placing a mintage limited in any given year. The largest reported mintage was 118,577 coins in 2012 amidst skyrocketing demand for silver, while the 2010 release was the lowest at 13,315 coins.
Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse side of 1/2 oz Australian Silver Koala Coins. The effigy of the Queen shown here comes from Ian Rank-Broadley and was popularly used on Australian coins from 1999 to 2018. The portrait captures the Queen wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.
Koalas are found on the obverse side of Australian Silver Koala Coins. The designs on this field of the coin changed each year, with no repeating designs found between 2008 and 2015. The designs typically featured either a lone adult koala or an adult koala with its young joey.
