Australian Gold Kangaroo coins debuted in this iteration in 1990. Previously, the coins had been known as the Australian Gold Nugget Series dating back to the 1987 introduction of the collection. The series was switched to the Gold Kangaroo in 1990 to match the incoming Silver Kookaburra offering with another of the nation’s unique endemic species featured as the primary design.
The 1/2 oz Australian Gold Kangaroo Coins in this listing are guaranteed to be in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. JM Bullion offers the coins in protective packaging to ensure that condition. As a random year listing, the coins in this product listing are available to you based upon quantities in our warehouse.
Once your payment is processed our warehouse team will select your coins for packaging. We cannot reserve or guarantee a specific date mark and corresponding design. You’ll receive coins based upon availability at this time. If you purchase more than one coin through this listing, please note that you may receive multiples with the same design and date mark.
The obverse of all 1/2 oz Australian Gold Kangaroo Coins features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. There are three possible effigies available on Gold Kangaroo coins. From 1984 to 1997, most Commonwealth nations used Raphael Maklouf’s third-generation portrait of Elizabeth II. From 1998 to 2018, the Perth Mint used Ian Rank-Broadley’s fourth-generation design. Coins issued in 2019 and beyond feature the latest Jody Clark design released by the Royal Mint of England in 2016.
On the reverse of 1/2 oz Australian Gold Kangaroo Coins, you’ll find a new design with each passing year. The designs on this side have featured the red kangaroo, western grey kangaroo, and even the wallaroo at different points during the three-decade run of the Australian Gold Kangaroo series.
