When the United States Mint resumed gold coining in the 1980s after more than 50 years, the American Gold Eagle not only brought back gold coining in the United States, but also launched a gold bullion investment series from the US Mint. The American Gold Eagles were introduced in 1986 with 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold coins. Today, 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coins are available online at JM Bullion.
Coin Highlights:
The 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle Coin is often the lowest minted in the series. In fact, the lowest recorded mintage figure for any individual weight in the American Gold Eagle Series is the 1991 1/2 oz American Gold Eagle with sales of just 24,100 coins. The highest mintage for the 1/2 oz Gold Eagle came in its debut year in 1986 with sales of 599,566 coins.

On the obverse of American Gold Eagles is the bust of Lady Liberty. This full-length depiction from Augustus Saint-Gaudens captures Liberty walking toward the viewer with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other, as well as a ring of stars, the U.S. Capitol Building, and sun rays in the background.
The reverse side of the 1/2 oz Gold Eagle Coin features one of two designs featuring the American bald eagle. From 1986 to mid-2021, Miley Busiek’s depiction of a family of eagles in and around the nest is on the coin. As of mid-2021, Jennie Norris’ design of a bald eagle’s head in left-profile relief graces the coins.

This would be my first AGE and I understood that I was taking a chance due to the coin's main description stating “varied condition”. I wasn’t so much worried about varied year aspect. With limited funds, I wanted attain this amazing coin for my collection. Though much to my surprise, JMB honored my order with a brilliantly flawless uncirculated A.G.E. dated 2004. I kid you not! Let alone the high value of this coin, the date increases the numismatic value. In short, I ended up getting a bit more value than what I expected.
