Silver precious metal products from private mints are increasingly popular right now, for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, many of their products are more readily available than some sovereign mint coin programs. Those coins, and in some cases bars, have limited mintage figures.
In the case of silver bullion and proof coins, the complex production methods and intricate designs create another difficulty for some investors: affordability. Suns of Liberty Mint products are made through simplified processes and have simple, yet brilliant designs that allow them to sell their silver precious metals for much lower premiums over the spot price of silver.
On the obverse of each 1/10 oz Standard Finish Suns of Liberty Silver Square you’ll find the markings of the square’s purity, metal content, and weight. The words “Troy Oz.” are engraved below as an indication of the weight measurement, while the numerical value of the weight is engraved in larger letters in the center.
The reverse of all Suns of Liberty Silver Squares includes a repeating pattern set at a 45-degree angle. You’ll find the shorthand for the mint’s name, SOLM (Suns of Liberty Mint), the sun logo for the mint, and the square’s weight, purity, and metal content engraved on this side.
Suns of Liberty Mint was founded in 2011 by Dave Breger, a former US Army Special Forces member who hand cut and hand stamped 15,000 silver pieces in his apartment. After graduating from the apartment, and his friend’s garage, Breger’s company purchased a manufacturing facility in Mount Holly Springs, Pennsylvania, where it employs hundreds of Americans in the production of American-made silver precious metal pieces.
