The smallest coin in the Proof American Gold Eagle series is the 1/10 oz gold coin. These diminutive coins were introduced last in 1988 with the 1/4 oz coin and often garner the greatest mintage figures in the series. Each of the 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagles in this product listing comes with a PR69 certification from the PGCS. Coins in this condition are considered near-perfect specimens that exhibit full, original mint luster and a maximum of two minor detracting flaws. These flaws are limited to minuscule contact marks or hairlines found outside the primary focal points.
The included DCAM label designates these coins as deep-cameo products. DCAM labels are reserved for proof coins that have strong, frosted design elements overlaying deeply-mirrored, clear background fields.
1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagles were introduced by the United States Mint in 1988, two years after the debut of the 1 oz coin. The 1/10 oz coins were initially issued by the Philadelphia Mint with a “P” mint mark from 1988 to 1993. From 1994 onward, the 1/10 oz Proof Gold Eagles were produced by the West Point Mint with “W” mint marks.
On the obverse side of all 1/10 oz Proof American Gold Eagle coins is the image of Lady Liberty. This image of Liberty walking with a torch in hand and an olive branch was created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, and originally featured on the $20 Gold Double Eagle Coin.
The reverse face of Proof American Gold Eagle coins includes an exclusive design created in 1986 by Miley Busiek. It depicts a male eagle flying over the family nest as a female eagle shelters a hatchling under her wing.
