A Look at Upcoming Releases from Popular Mints

newprod-spread6The first week of any new month is often the most exciting for precious metal investors and collectors. During the first few days of each month, sovereign and private mints around the globe release new products. Some of them have been teased already by the mints, and some will come as a complete surprise.

As this marks the end of the first week of May, JM Bullion wants to take a look at some of the exciting releases forthcoming in the month of May. Some of these coins, such as the vast selection from the Perth Mint, were released on Tuesday, May 3rd. Others, such as some of the US Mint offerings are available starting different days of the month. In any case, it’s an exciting time of the month, so here we go!

United States Mint America the Beautiful Coins

By now, the vast majority of collectors are familiar with the 11-year, 56-coin series from the United States Mint. The America the Beautiful series of coins features five new designs every year, with a staggered release schedule throughout any given calendar year. The 2016 American the Beautiful coins kicked off in February with the release of the Shawnee National Forest coin.

Next up on the calendar is the 2016 5 oz ATB Cumberland Gap National Historical Park coin. While the coin’s bullion version is already available, starting May 5th, the US Mint released the uncirculated version of the 2016 5 oz ATB Cumberland Gap National Historical Park coin. These coins have a limited mintage of 30,000 in total, and feature unique edge lettering that denotes the coin’s purity, metal content, and weight. Uncirculated versions of the coin bear the “P” mint mark of the Philadelphia Mint.

    Perth Mint 2016 Australian Kookaburra

The Australian Silver Kookaburra is the coin that launched the Perth Mint’s most successful program to date. Each year the Perth Mint releases a series of new gold and silver coins honoring native species to the continent. The Australian Kookaburra was the first coin, released in 1990, and followed by the Australian Silver Koala and, more recently, the Australian Silver Kangaroo.

Available as of May 3rd, the Perth Mint released the 2016 1 oz Australian Silver Kookaburra High Relief Proof coin. These coins have a limited mintage of just 10,000 coins in total, with only 8,000 scheduled for sale in presentation-themed packaging. The high-relief strikings bears the latest Kookaburra design for 2016, and have a 3D appearance courtesy of multiple strikings under intense pressure.

Perth Mint 2016 Language of Love Silver Proof

Also available to start May is a new proof product from the Perth Mint. The 2016 Language of Love Proof coin is a 2 troy oz specimen with an extremely limited mintage of just 3,000 coins in total. The coins ship in presentation shippers, come with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity, and include a stunning reverse design that celebrates love.

The Language of Love Silver Proof features a colorized image of the word “Love,” with red lettering and a heart in place of the “o” in Love. On the design you’ll also find the word love in a variety of other languages, including German, French, Vietnamese, and Russian. These coins are legal tender authorized by the government of Tuvalu.

Perth Mint 2016 The Cubs Series

Earlier in 2016 the Perth Mint released an exciting new series of coins with colorized images honoring adorable animal cubs from feline species found around the globe. The five-coin series started with the Tiger Cubs coin, and continues with the 2nd release, the 2016 ½ oz. Australian Cubs Jaguar Cub Silver Proof coin.

Each coin contains ½ troy oz of .999 pure silver and bears a face value of $.50 that is legal tender in Tuvalu. The coins have an extremely limited mintage of just 5,000 in total. Coins in this collection ship in colorized presentation packaging that features artwork representative of the Cub Series, and the individual cubs represented in this release.

On the reverse face of the 2016 ½ oz Australian Cubs Jaguar Cub Silver Proof you’ll find the image of two cute Jaguar cubs, with an Incan pyramid in the background. Jaguars are native to the Americas, and this design features one in the traditional yellow-and-black spots, and one spotted but in all black coloring.

Perth Mint 2016 Star Trek Deep Space Nine Latinum Bar

Fans of all things Star Trek have a lot to celebrate throughout 2016 as it marks the 50th anniversary of the debut of Gene Roddenberry’s science-fiction cult classic. The Perth Mint released an exciting series of Star Trek Silver Proof coins in late 2015 to honor the then-upcoming anniversary, and now the mint is set to release an exciting variation in the celebration.

The 2016 1 oz Star Trek Deep Space Nine Silver Latinum Gold-Plated bar is available with a mintage of just 5,000 bars in total. In the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine television series, latinum was a rare silver colored liquid that possessed an extremely high value to numerous civilizations, including the Ferengi Alliance. The liquid latinum was, in the series, suspended within a gold bar for easier use as a tradable currency.

The Perth Mint recreates the exact look of the latinum bars from the show with a 1 oz silver bar containing .999 pure silver that is plated in gold to replicate the appearance. Each one ships in a Star Trek themed presentation package, and comes with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

    About the United States Mint

The United States Mint is the most active mint in the world, churning out millions of coins and paper banknotes for collectors, as well as the American economy. Founded in 1792 with passage of the Coinage Act of 1792, the United States Mint today boasts four different mint facilities: San Francisco Mint, Denver Mint, Philadelphia Mint, and West Point Mint.

Among these four locations, the West Point Mint is arguably the most active as it is responsible for production of the bullion, proof, and burnished versions of both the American Silver Eagle and American Gold Eagle coins. The former sold a record 47.3 million specimen in 2015 alone! The coining presses at the West Point Mint run around the clock to keep up with demand. About the Perth Mint

The Perth Mint is the oldest operating minting facility in the country of Australia. Founded in 1898 as part of the British Royal Mint system on the continent, it is the only remaining one in operation following the closures of the Sydney Mint and Melbourne Mint. Today, the Perth Mint operates as an entity of the state government of Western Australia, and is independent of the federal government’s Royal Australian Mint.

However, all Perth Mint coins enjoy legal tender status under the Currency Act of 1965, which also established the Royal Australian Mint. There are countless Perth Mint products available from JM Bullion, ranging from silver proof coins to gold bars. To view our entire catalog, please feel free to click here.
