Buying Gold and Silver in Rhode Island

Rhode Island, the smallest U.S. state, is also among the most densely populated. The last of the thirteen original colonies, this New England State has been nicknamed “The Ocean State” because bays and inlets account for about 14% of the state’s total area.

Historically, Rhode Island served as an important manufacturing center for costume jewelry, silverware, and textiles; fishing was also important to the Rhode Island economy.

Bullion Sales Tax in Rhode Island

Rhode Island does not charge sales tax for coins or precious metal bullion. However, sales tax does apply to purchases of paper currency, as well as non-coin collectibles, such as tokens and medals. The sales tax rate is currently 7% anywhere in the state; be sure to account for this tax when calculating the total purchase price, if the items you are purchasing are not tax exempt.

JM Bullion, being an out of state retailer, does NOT have to charge sales tax to Rhode Island residents. Browse our selection of tax-free gold and silver products. Please note that we are not tax experts, and individuals may be liable to pay local Use tax.
