Pennsylvania is the only one of the 13 original colonies not bordering the Atlantic Ocean. This Northeastern state was the second to ratify the U.S. Constitution.
A number of historically important American documents, including the Declaration of Independence, were signed here. Today, Pennsylvania is an important manufacturing center, and is home to 50 companies on the Fortune 500 list.
Bullion Sales Tax in Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania has a sales tax exemption for coins and bullion. However, paper currency – as well as non-coin collectibles like tokens and medals – remain taxable. In recent years, there have been efforts to repeal the exemption, but no such efforts have been successful.
The state sales tax rate is currently 6%, with local and county taxes that bring the total tax rate as high as 8% in some areas. If you are a Pennsylvania investor purchasing gold or silver, be sure that you know which items are tax exempt to get the most out of your investment.
JM Bullion, dealing exclusively in tax-exempt bullion, does NOT have to charge sales tax to Pennsylvania residents. Browse our selection of tax-free gold and silver products. Please note that we are not tax experts, and this information should not be construed as tax advice.
