Product Description

As low as $40.49 per oz over spot!

The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra is the oldest continually performing orchestra in the world today. Originally formed in the mid-19th century, the orchestra continues to delight viewers of all ages on annual basis. It was the perfect choice for an official Austrian bullion coin to represent the nation. Right now, the 2016 1 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coin is available from JM Bullion.

Coin Highlights:

  • 27th annual striking of the Austrian Gold Philharmonic!
  • Ships to you in a protective flip, mint-sealed tubes of 10 coins, or boxes of 500.
  • Contains 1 oz of .9999 pure gold.
  • Issued a face value of €100 (Euro) by the government of Austria and the EU.
  • Inspired by the instruments and music hall of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
  • Designed by Thomas Pessendorfer.
  • Struck annually with the same design sets.

Austrian Gold Philharmonic coins were originally introduced in 1989 with a design from Thomas Pessendorfer. A lot has changed in this coin program since its introduction. First off, the program has expanded from the original offering of only the 1 oz. weight, to now include a ½ oz, ¼ oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/25 oz coin. The latter coin is the latest addition, added to the program in 2014 for the 25th anniversary.

The Austrian Philharmonic Coin series includes a silver version of the coin, struck only in 1 oz, as well as the massive 20 oz Austrian Gold Philharmonic struck in 2004 on the program’s 15th anniversary. That one-time issue coin was known as the Big Phil. Austrian Gold Philharmonic coins were first struck with face values listed in Austrian Shillings, and now Euros following the 2002 formation of the European Union and Eurozone common currency.

On the obverse face of the coin you’ll find the pipe organ from the Musikverein Golden Hall in Vienna, along with engravings of the nation of issue, and the coin’s face value, year of issue, weight, metal content, and purity.

The reverse features a cornucopia of instruments used by members of the orchestra during performances. Engravings on this face, as with the obverse, are in German, and read “Wiener Philharmoniker.”
